one configure file for all my package.

Hi,

How can i create one configure file that all my packages will inherit the connection to other databases from him?

thanks.

what is better to save my connection string into a table in my DWH or save them to XML file,

so when i want to change my SSIS to work with test enviroment it take the connection string from the db and when i want to switch to prod enviroment i'll use the connection of prod that store in the db.

i think to create a package will switch the connection string value whenever i want?

is it the right way ?

any ideas?

thanks alot!

|||Use of the database or XML is mostly a matter of personal preference. An additional step that is required with a database configuration is managing connections to the configuration database itself. You usually need a seperate XML configuration (or a variable that you set via the commandline) to handle the connection for the configuration database.

On Failure WorkFlow not getting Exectuted

i created a DTS package in SQL 2000 using the enterprise manager.

I have defined a SQL task to drop some temporary tables on failure of another SQL task. Also the same temporary tables need to be dropped on success of another task. the on success workflow is working fine. but when i add the on failure workflow to the temporary table dropping task, the temp table droppin is not getting excuted at all either for success nor for the failure. please help me out.

So multiple conditions are pointed to the same failure "workflow"?

If so, change the Multiple constraints option on one of the precedence constraints from the default of "Logical AND" (all constraints must evaluluate to true) to "Logical OR" (only one constraint must evaluate to true).|||Logical OR is great feature in SSIS, but I think the question is about DTS 2000, which did not have this option. In DTS 2000 you need to duplicate error-handling tasks. Or move to SSIS :)|||It worked when i duplicated the error-handling tasks..

On error i want to send error description as mail

I have create a SSIS package, for data export import process, but if my task get failed then i have to send a mail with proper error description as the SSIS generate in output window.

Can any one sugget me to, how can i store that error desciption in my variable.?

Thanks in advance.

You can create a table with the following fields packageid,packagename,taskname,errormessage.

And later write a stored procedure which will insert the data into this table from the package variables. On event handler tab call this stored procedure and pass the system variables "system::executioninstanceguid","system::packagename","system::sourcename","system::errordescription".

Once this is done you can read values from this particular table and assign it to a variable and later on call it in the send mail task.Hope this will help you.

|||

Use OnError Event in Event Handler and system variables such as [System::ErrorCode] and [System::ErrorDescription]

http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms139744.aspx

|||

As you define above i'm doing such a way

dts.variable("User::vName").value = dts.variable("System::ErrorDescription")

but it is going me error in my script task.

:-(

please provide more specific detail or information.

|||

Hi..

1. In OnError Event Handler, Add a Script Task..

2. Define ReadWriteVariables value in ScriptTask Properties like this

ReadWriteVariables | User::vName,System::ErrorDescription

3. In VSA, edit your script like this..

Dts.Variables("vName").Value = Dts.Variables("ErrorDescription").Value.ToString

OLEDB Providers

Hi,

I have a DTS package which is using OLEBD provider for Oracle, it was working fine. I tried to open this package and I got this error message "There was a problem retrieving the list of OLE DB Providers"

I tried to intall MDAC8.2, it didn't help, should I reinstall SQL Server?

Thanks!Where was the package working fine from, and where you were trying to open it from when you received an error?|||It was working from SQL Server 2000, I am trying it from same machine, same sql server and its not working.|||So you tried to install MDAC 8.2 on the SQL Server box? MDAC level on the server is controlled by service packs and should not be changed by any other way, like direct installation. MDAC is what SQL uses to talk to itself. If this is what you did, - at a minimum you need to have a reliable backup of your master, msdb, and user databases, because you may have to reapply SP3 (not sure that would do it), reinstall SQL (possibly will fix it), or reload the box.|||I tried to reinstall sql 2000 and service pack 3a but problem still exists. Is there any other option besides reloading the box?

Thanks!

OLEDB Error when using Visual FoxPro Driver

Hi all,

I created a package that extracts records from a .DBF file into an SQL Server database. I installed a Visual FoxPro plugin (vfpoledb). When I run the package from my PC, it runs smoothly. But, when I try to run the same package in another PC, it displays a DTS_E_OLEDBERROR "Class not registered" error. Anyone has an idea about what this means? thanks in advance.
Is the OLE DB driver correctly installed in the other PC? If the package runs fine in one PC, then I doubt is a SSIS issue.|||Yes, the OLEDB is installed properly in the other PC. The driver is also installed in the Database Server. Still the problem occurs. I also tried placing and running the SSIS package in the database server but the same problem is encountered. I'm running out of ideas as to what might have caused the problem. What might be the cause(s) of the problem?

Thanks.

Could you try using this provider with some other client?

Thanks,

Bob

OLEDB Destination question

Situation

I have a package with an execute SQL task that truncates the destination table as the first step in the control flow and a data flow task that reads data from a flat file and loads a sql server table.

Once in a while the package bombs because it cannot get access to the flat file. The end result is that the table is empty because the truncate runs first. Obviously, I need to address the file contention, but I was wondering how to address this issue in general since anything that causes the data flow to blow up would leave the table empty.

I would rather have the table with day old data than empty, since it is not mission critical and the users can at least look at yesterday's data as opposed to nothing.

Question

Is there a way to specify a "load replace" on the OLEDB destination? I haven't seen one and I guess it makes sense because the data flow task transformations run row by row.

The only solution that I have come up with is to have the following on the control flow:

1) data flow task which reads flat file and loads a temp table

2) execute sql task to truncate the "real" destination

3) data flow task to move data from temp table to real table.

Anyone else come up with a better way to handle this?

Thanks!!

I guess from my perspective, I'd never truncate a table as the "first" step of an import process. You're guaranteed to have upset users when an issue that's completely out of your control (meaning, the missing flat file) asserts itself.

I'm using the following logic in a similar application:

1) In a Script Task, I verify the flat file is available, and contains at least one row of data.

2) If the "flat file verification" succeeds, a "Go_NoGo" boolean variable is set to True; otherwise, it remains False

3) An expression (@.[User::Go_NoGo]==True) on the constraint between the Script Task and the next task in the control flow effectively prevents the truncate / replace operation from running if the variable is False.

The code to verify the existance of the flat file is pretty simple:

Private Function GetFileExists(ByVal ImportFile_Path As String) As Boolean
Dim fi As System.IO.FileInfo

Try

fi = New System.IO.FileInfo(ImportFile_Path)

If Not fi.Exists Then
'No point in continuing - cannot find file:
'Discard FileInfo object:
fi = Nothing
Return False
End If

If fi.Length = 0 Then
fi = Nothing
Return False
End If

'Discard FileInfo object:
fi = Nothing

Return True

Catch ex As Exception

Throw ex

End Try

End Function 'GetFileExists

The FileInfo "Length" property tells you how big the flat file is, so it's a pretty good measure of whether or not the flat file contains data.

Obviously, the two If statement can be combined with an Or. In my application I actually check the count of lines in the flat file, and save it to make sure I import all the rows by comparing the line count with the row count in the destination table:

Private Function GetLineCount(ByVal ImportFile_Path As String) As Long
Dim LineCount As Long
Dim sr As System.IO.StreamReader
Dim str As String
Dim i As Long

Try
sr = New System.IO.StreamReader(ImportFile_Path)

Do
str = sr.ReadLine

If Not str Is Nothing Then
If str.Length > 1 Then
LineCount += 1
End If

str = String.Empty

End If

Loop Until str Is Nothing

'Discard StreamReader object:
sr.Close()
sr = Nothing

Return LineCount

Catch ex As Exception

Throw ex

End Try

End Function

I don't run the GetLineCount function until I know the file is there and is more than zero length.

Interesting approach....I may add something similar to my process.

Thanks for taking the time to provide an answer!

OLEDB conn mgr change is not detected in BIDS/vs.net

I have changed the database name in an ole db connection manager. (The server name is identical)

When I run the package, it is still using the old db name.

I have tried restarting VS but it makes no difference.

How can I get it to stop caching the original name/update it to get the new name?restarting did fix the issue, but still it is ridiculous that you should have to take such an action

OLEDB Command giving error for decalre and set statements at the top of the SQL script

Hi All,

I have an OLEDB command in my package that has to execute some SQL script.

But when I declare and set a variable at the top of all code, The OLEDB gives an error in column mappings tab.

My DQL script is as shown below

DECLARE @.Cost AS money

SET @.Cost=?

--Some update statements a table

OLEDB Command works if write the declare and set statements after update statements. Like below. But I don’t need it.

--Some update statements a table

DECLARE @.Cost AS money

SET @.Cost=?

I also observer that,Oledb Command gives error for the code given below.

Just paste the following Script in OLEDB command, it gives error in column mapping tab

DECLARE @.Cost AS money

SET @.Cost=?

Any Idea on this behaviour?

Thanks in advance..

Is there a solution for this?
|||I don't think you can parameterize a SET statement like that. You should use a stored procedure.
|||

You can parameterize a SET statement provided you must have INSERT/UPDATE statements at the top.

for example :

INSET INTO table(col1)

values(?)

DECLARE @.VAR1 as int

Set @.VAR1=?

Works fine...

In my case ,I have only two queries,Do you think putting those in SP is a better option.

OLEDB AcquireConnection Issues

On day 1 of the first package. In playing around with some settings for using variables, I've seemed to have set a few things that are causing issues.

In my dataflow I have a source and target destination with 3 separate lookups. All of these objects utilize the same connection manager. When trying to revert the package to a ProtectionLevel=EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey, I'll see one of the 5 objects fail with a No AcquireConnection issue. I'll stop the debug, test the connection to re-validate it. The next debug run will cause the next object to fail. This repeats in an infinite loop until I get tired of re-validating all of the objects.

What option have I set that has screwed up things?

ControlFlow.Security.ProtectionLevel=EncryptSensitiveWithUserKey

Connection.DelayValidation=False

Connection.RetainSameConnection=False

Any Ideas? Thanks in advance.

Just thought I'd add an update. It appears to be tied to the entire solution and not just a particular package.

Here's the actual error:
[LKP-UCM DepartmentId [276]] Error: The AcquireConnection method call to the connection manager "MDW_Staging" failed with error code 0xC0202009.
[DTS.Pipeline] Error: component "LKP-UCM DepartmentId" (276) failed validation and returned error code 0xC020801C.

Again, when going into the individual objects I can preview the results and everything is fine. It seems that the connection made is not held for later connections (lookups, destinations). My only solution now is to have the password in the connection manager's connectstring. Seems like a security issue there.

OLE DB Source and OLE DB Destination components: how to do without the datasourc

Hello all,

I'm implementing an application that builds SSIS package. I've faced the problem I don't know what to do about it.

In a simple case, I build a dataflow which has OLE DB Source and OLE DB Destination component. The problem is, that at the moment I build the dataflow I don't have source and target databases, i.e. datasources. A source database is accessed and a target database is created later, and after that the package is run.

In this situation connection strings for source and destination sources are populated via variables, but what to do about columns in the source/destination which at the moment the package is created cannot be retrieved from data sources. When designing, they are taken from respective datasources, custom columns, not from a datasource, cannot be added.

I don't know how to populate OLE DB Source and OLE DB Destination components with columns, not from datasources, but with ones from not existing databases yet, which will exist when the package is executed. In what way can I do that?

Thanks in advance,

sash pSorry if my question is easy, but I'm so new to SSIS programming. I've just looked around and noticed "OpenRowset Using FastLoad From Variable" option for the OLE DB Source/Destination. Of course at the design time I need to specify datasources but I can specify a table name in a variable. At a run time, when programmatically building a package, I only need variables for connection strings and source/destination tables. And then that will work. Correct me please if I'm wrong.

OLE DB Source - Data Access Mode - SQL Command

I got a package with data flow task. Within the data flow task I have flat file with Fiscal Calendar defined. I got another data source within the data flow task, which is OLE DB Source. I want to use SQL Command as data access mode. SQL similar to one the below is in there.

-

DECLARE @.startdate DATETIME
DECLARE @.enddate DATETIME
DECLARE @.date DATETIME
DECLARE @.id INT

SET @.startdate = '1993-09-26' --Change these to
SET @.enddate = '2010-09-25' --whatever you want
SET @.id = 1
SET @.date = DATEADD(dd, @.id, @.startdate)

WHILE @.date <= @.enddate
BEGIN
select @.date CalendarDate,
DATEPART(dd, @.date) CalendarDayMonth,
DATEPART(dy, @.date) CalendarDayYear,
DATEPART(dw, @.date) CalendarDayWeek,
DATENAME(dw, @.date) CalendarDayName

SET @.id = @.id + 1
SET @.date = DATEADD(dd, @.id, @.startdate)

END

-

This SQL works fine in SSMS and returns around 6000 rows. But when I plug the same SQL in OLE DB Source it returns only the first record. It is not going through the WHILE loop.

Has anyone came across this?

Thanks

Sutha

Hey,

OLEDB Source connection to what database?

Brian

|||

I am connecting to my warehouse DB but the source is just the SQL, it doesn't need to extract anything from DB, as the SQL should give the result set.

What I should ideally use is "Execute SQL Task", which is in Control Flow Task.

Maybe I could achieve this by putting into a temp table and source it from the temp table. I am going to check it out.

Thanks

Sutha

OLE DB Provider - Saving SQL UserName and Password error

I have created an SSIS package, which uses an IBM OLE DB Provider for DB2 to access some data. In this case it is not possible to use

OLE DB for DB2 Built on Dev run on Standard

I have built a simple package using the Microsoft OLE DB provider for DB2 with SSIS Developer. If I schedule this on a Standard SQL2005 machine the package will not run. The error is blank, just says it had an error. Can I not run this package because the provider is not installed on this machine? If so is there a work around for this?you probably have to run your package on the box that has DB2OLEDB physically installed.|||

I believe that the ole db for DB2 has to be used on enterprise edition (if i read the licesne right from the ssis extension site). I am not sure if the ms one works very well. The IBM one sucked very badly when dealing with decimals. Even they recommended not using it (IBM) as part of the Client access express in their redbooks. If you are not going to fork out the extra few thousand bucks for enterprise, try the ODBC connect from DataDirect. It is a bazillion times faster than the CLAE ODBC, and i could actually get it to work (on db2 400).

Dev edition has all rights/ features as enterprise.

ole db destination not inserting data

my package has a data flow task that is attempting to insert data into a sql server table using the ole db destination. the package validates and runs without reporting any errors, but the data was not inserted into the table. my data mappings look fine. how can i see what's happening when the component attempts to insert the data into the table?

Can you post all log messages that are produced from your data-flow?

OLE DB Destination fails with illegal instruction

Environment: Server Windows 2003 SP1, VS 2005

I ran into this problem trying to deploy an SSIS package to a development server. I tested by creating a simple SSIS package on the server itself. Two blocks an OLE DB Source block and an OLE DB Destination block. Two tables in the same database, one the source, the other the destination. Connection manager test connection works fine.

Package will execute from the IDE (locally on the development server), source block will read the table subcessfully, but when the destination block executes it fails and will stay yellow in the status screen. during the execution SQLDumper.exe is triggered. Analyzing the dump tells me:

(2b40.2938): Illegal instruction - code c000001d (first/second chance not available)
eax=04008010 ebx=00000004 ecx=00000010 edx=00000000 esi=00000940 edi=00000000

cs=001b ss=0023 ds=0023 es=0023 fs=003b gs=0000 efl=00000297

An illegal instruction was hit.

This error exists when the destination block is either an OLE DB Destinaltion or a SQL Server Destination block and the SSIS application is executing locally.

Strangely enough if I run this same SSIS application from my development laptop it works fine against either my local datbase instance (on the laptop) or against the development server (App running on laptop, DB on development server).

I have scanned the forums and search engines for this type of error, so any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks...

do you have logging enabled? if so, please post the exact ssis error message.|||

I am getting the same problem:

On a new development server installation Win 2003 R2 and MSDN SQL2005 Developer edition & SP1 (was a clean install) when using DTSWizard or a SSIS package in VS2005 on the server to transfer data onto a sql table (either from another table or flat file) I get a fatal error "Unhandled win 32 exception" - looking in the event log I get

VS2005 on the server is

Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer

On my developer desktop I have VS2005 as

Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer
Version 9.00.1399.00

and I can build a project on this which runs ok from the desktop

I do get version difference alerts if I try & load a SSIS project on the server when I initially made it on the desktop

Any ideas?

I ran into this problem trying to deploy an SSIS package to a development server. I tested by creating a simple SSIS package on the server itself. Two blocks an OLE DB Source block and an OLE DB Destination block. Two tables in the same database, one the source, the other the destination. Connection manager test connection works fine.

Package will execute from the IDE (locally on the development server), source block will read the table subcessfully, but when the destination block executes it fails and will stay yellow in the status screen. during the execution SQLDumper.exe is triggered. Analyzing the dump tells me:

(2b40.2938): Illegal instruction - code c000001d (first/second chance not available)
eax=04008010 ebx=00000004 ecx=00000010 edx=00000000 esi=00000940 edi=00000000
eip=7c82ed54 esp=0422f598 ebp=0422f608 iopl=0 nv up ei ng nz ac po cy
cs=001b ss=0023 ds=0023 es=0023 fs=003b gs=0000 efl=00000297

Thanks...

Faulting application dtswizard.exe, version 9.0.2047.0, stamp 443f5b0a, faulting module dtspipeline.dll, version 2005.90.2047.0, stamp 443f5a9c, debug? 0, fault address 0x0004c258.

VS2005 on the server is

Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer
Version 9.00.2047.00

On my developer desktop I have VS2005 as

Microsoft SQL Server Integration Services Designer
Version 9.00.1399.00

and I can build a project on this which runs ok from the desktop

I do get version difference alerts if I try & load a SSIS project on the server when I initially made it on the desktop

Any ideas?

regards

'OLE DB Destination' failed validation error

Hi,

I'm developing a SSIS package and am coming across this problem:

"Error at myTable [DTS.Pipeline]: component 'OLE DB Destination' (156) failed validation and returned error code 0xC020801C.

Here's the situation with my package. It basically consists of a bunch of tasks to build a database and populate the tables from an Excel file.

The first task runs a SQL file to create all my DB tables, etc. The next set of tasks import data from the Excel file into the tables. All tasks have precedence constraints so that the SQL file will build the DB tables first.

Here's the problem. Everything works perfectly if my database ALREADY exists. The problem comes when the database does not exist. It seems like the SSIS does some sort of schema validation on my dataflow tasks to ensure that everything is ok.

Is there any way to bypass this validation so that my SSIS will run ok without the DB already existing? I know that everything WILL be ok because the ExecuteSQL task will create the structure for me.

I used to work with SQL 2000 DTS, and i never ran into this problem before. Previously, i could run the DTS no problem, however, i just couldn't open the transformations if the DB didn't exist.

Thanks.

Set DelayValidation=True on the Data Flow.
