One general q?

Helo all,
i have one general q about sql server and MSDE.
for how many users can i configure MSDE to work for?
i mean connection per second, or something like that?
thanks in advance!
-k.p.
There is no such config in MSDE. Just leave the sp_configure settings as they are. MSDE is
throttled, when you have more than 5.8 queries *executing at the same time* a delay is introduced
for each I/O operation.

One Application With 2 DataBase

Hai All ,

Iam having the one Application in DotNet2005.But iam using the two database(SqlServer2005).If user's login the application it will check credentials in first database, if he is not having the login credentials it will cheek the second Database. How can I handle in the configuration file?. How can I change the connection string depending upon the Database in my application for database operation (like insert and update).Any one kindly provide the solution.

Thanks and regards,sureshK

you can have 2 separate connection string in web.config file, appsetting section like

<add key="loginConnectionString" value = "" />

<add key="ConnectionString" value="" />

you can check have a Session Variable named as "CurrentLogin" where you can store the ID or Name or anything user related information after successful login.. if user is logged in.. then that Session Variable must having Some Value.. you can check that value and;... set and use required Connection String by you... hope i got your situation...

|||

Hai Thank You. Your answer is exactly Correct. If their is any other way to achieve this?.

With Regards,

SureshK.|||

Hi mskumarmca,

Just askaushalparik27 has suggested above, you can use two different connection string to connect to 2 databases, and in your code behind, first build one connecton to the first database and execute your query. If the specific username/password has been found, it indicates that the current user is registered in the first dabase. And if not, you can build another connection to the second database and execute the same query likewise.

A small tip here: you can provide 2 check boxes in the page UI, giving users a change to select on which database they would like to verify their credential. This should be much helpful to enhance your site performance.

Hope my suggestion helps

|||

Hi thank for your tips.

Yes I get database name and passing the database name as parameter and finished.

But I am trying to keep the Database name in session. But I am not able to get that session value in my BL layer.

For change the connection string for further database operations. Below code was I am trying to get database value in BL Layer class file. But the session value is set as Null. What is the problem?

String DBName=(String)System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session["DBNAME"];

Kindly give me the idea. Regards,SureshK|||

where and how did you store that DBNAME into your session variables?

|||

Hi thanks for your reply,

When the user log in the application. I will connect through default connection string with DB1.

I have one SP to check login cardinals in DB1 and DB2 and it will return the login cardinals and connection string name.

if user name is DB1 I am going to use ConsStr1 else Constr2. That Connection string value in login page.

Session["DBNAME"] = dsLogin.Tables[0].Rows[0][DBNAME].ToString();

Above session value only i need to access in my business logic layer.

Regards,

SureshK

Hai all I Got the answer.

In BL Class file .

Import the namesapce.

using System.Web.SessionState;

And Following is to access the session Variable.

string SapId = (String)System.Web.HttpContext.Current.Session["session variale name in asp.cs"];

On-Demand E-Mail Delivery

Hi,
Is there a way to deliver reports via email without any subscriptions?
Because, most of the time the reports users will send will only be sent once
and if i create a subscription for each of these i'll end up with hunders of
necessary subscriptions.
Any comments and ideas are welcome. Thanks in advance.
Best regards,
VolkanI solved the problem. In case someone faces a similar situation, i'll write
down my solution for future reference. It's not exactly how i wanted it to be
but at least it works.
01. Create a TimedSubscription and store its subscription ID. (Schedule
value doesn't matter, we'll delete it anyway after email is sent)
02. Call FireEvent method of the ReportingService class with EventData
parameter set to subscription ID.
03. Get subscription list and check if the event is triggered by checking
the LastExecuted property of the subscription object.
04. If the subscription is executed call DeleteSubscription
Maybe there's a better way out there but until i find it i'll stick with
this even tough it has some drawbacks.
Regards.

on delete cascade & hierarchical table

for MS SQL 2000
I am trying to do a hierarchical table and i want to add a ON DELETE CASCADE

CREATE TABLE [dbo].[Users](
[id_Users] [int] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED,
[id_UsersSup] [int] NULL,
[Users] [nvarchar] (100) NOT NULL
) ON [PRIMARY]

ALTER TABLE [dbo].[Users] ADD
CONSTRAINT [FK_Users_Sup] FOREIGN KEY
(
[id_UsersSup]
) REFERENCES [Users] (
[id_Users]
)
ON DELETE CASCADE

but MS SQL refuse to create the foreign key
even if there is 4 levels under the deleted id_Users I want to delete all the rows on all levels under

thank you for helpingI tried running your code on SQL Server 2005, and got the following message:

Introducing FOREIGN KEY constraint 'FK_Users_Sup' on table 'Users' may cause cycles or multiple cascade paths. Specify ON DELETE NO ACTION or ON UPDATE NO ACTION, or modify other FOREIGN KEY constraints.

In my opinion, this error message tells pretty well why you are not allowed to use on delete cascade on a self-join.|||You will need to implement this cascading referential integrity using a trigger.

OLE DB Connectivity

Do users need to be setup with the Client Connectivity
only for an application that uses OLE DB to access MS SQL
Standard Edition?
Thanks,
AnjelinaNo, Users you need to have the MDAC installed.
If you send your queries DSN-less in your Apps, they even don´t have
maintain a connection info and their computers (like DSNs)

Old Users / New Domain - Any way to directly update SYSXLOGINS

FIRST - I already know I it is not recommended to directly update systems
tables - no need to remind me. That being said, here is the scenario. I
have a bunch of users who are switching from one domain to another. EXAMPLE
login -
myco.us.east\joe should NOW be myco.us.west\joe
So, is there any easy way to just change the LOGIN name. I know that
SYSLOGINS is a view and that SYSXLOGINS is the root table. Problem is that
NAME in SYSXLOGINS doesnt seem to reflect the login name, rather the user
name. It would be great is I could just change the login name via SQL - Any
ideas on this' Exactly what columns and where?What is the version of SQL Server?
Take a look at sp_change_users_login in the BOL

FYI - The undocumented sysxlogins table doesn't exist in SQL 2005. The
syslogins view is preserved for backwards compatibility, but it's
deprecated.
Unfortunately, I think you will need to drop and recreate the logins.
I think it should be reasonably straightforward to generate the code to
do that. Since you have NT authenticated users, you won't have to
worry about passwords, which simplifies the task somewhat.
Good luck.
